Inglewood United may be unbeaten in their last nine National Premier Leagues outings but don’t expect that to mean they will be taking a relaxed approach into this weekend’s clash with lowly Subiaco AFC. That rich vein of form has propelled Inglewood up the competition standings to fourth and within two points of top spot.
Inglewood can further extend their run on Saturday when they travel to eleventh-placed Subiaco, who hover just four points above last place. Some consider it a foregone conclusion that Inglewood will collect the win but John Migas isn’t among them, the defender remembering all too well the consequences of under-estimating the Lions.
“Even though Subiaco have been at the lower end of the table the last few years, they’ve always put up a big fight against us and even came away with the three points at home last year,” Migas commented. “That game proved very costly as it meant we finished the season as runners-up in the league.”
“We learnt some valuable lessons that day and won’t be taking Subiaco lightly this weekend. They got a big win over Bayswater City last time out so their confidence is going to be high. They’re going to be tough to overcome and we’re going to have to be at our best to come away with the three points.”
Migas ended a three-game absence from the starting eleven last weekend by playing his part in Inglewood’s 2-0 defeat of top-of-the-table Sorrento. “It was good to be back in the team,” said Migas. “It’s always good to get a clean sheet and I pulled up well after the game.”
“I’d been on holiday in Coral Bay for a couple weeks and found it hard to get back into a winning team when I returned. The boys have been playing really well and have chalked up a couple big wins against the quality opposition in Bayswater and Floreat Athena.”
“I was lucky enough to get a chance against Sorrento due to them being one of the more physical teams in the competition. We’ve had a run of difficult games over the last month and I feel we have the rewards we deserved. And we aren’t about to let all that hard work come undone.”
