Attacker Ndumba Makeche has issued a clear statement of intent by scoring on debut for Malaysian club Perlis FA. The former Inglewood United player was on target in the second half of Perlis’ 2-1 friendly loss to Penang FA late last week, only days after being revealed as the club’s newest recruit.
Makeche, 25, will wear the captain’s armband as Perlis attempt to climb away from foot of the Malaysian Premier League. “I’m feeling good and are looking forward to lacing up the boots again,” Makeche said of joining Perlis, who are second-from-bottom at the Malaysian season midpoint.
“The club was deducted three points before the season began and has found it hard to string together results. But we’ve taken points from our last two games – one of which was a draw with the league leaders, Negeri Sembilan – so I’m confident we can turn things around and keep our place in the Premier League.”
Zambian-born Makeche shot to prominence as a teenager with Inglewood, scoring the 2011 Premier League Goal of the Season and placing fifth in that year’s Gold Medal. A few months later he turned professional with Perth Glory, and in early 2014 moved to Malaysia in search of first team football.
Makeche played 35 times and scored 15 goals across two seasons with Felda United before playing last year at Sarawak, where made 21 appearances and scored 11 times. He has more recently been training with Bayswater City and Shah Alam Antlers (Malaysia). Perlis commence the second part of the season away to Negeri Sembilan at the end of the month.
