SOCCEROOS SIGHTS SET ON VICTORY: RUKAVYTSYA

2017_11_08_Australia_training_session_Nikita_RukavytsyaAttacker Nikita Rukavytsya says the Socceroos have just one goal in mind for tomorrow morning’s World Cup Qualifier against Honduras.   Australia will step onto the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano pitch with a view of establishing a scoreboard advantage over the Central Americans.

“First games are always important to get a good result,” said former Inglewood United junior Rukavytsya, who is expected to make his 16th appearance for the national team against Honduras.   “We’ll try our best to get something out of the game, to help us set up for the second one.”

Rukavytsya is among the most-travelled Socceroos to join camp having flown into Central America from Israel, where he plays for Maccabi Haifa.   “It’s been quite difficult to get here, I had three stops, four flights, so it took a bit of time,” Rukavytsya explained.   “But finally I’m here and I can focus on the game now.”

The Socceroos go head-to-head with Honduras on Saturday morning (6am Perth time) at Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in Honduras, before meeting again on Wednesday, 15 November, at Stadium Australia in Sydney.   The winner of the series will book their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
