Goalkeeper Alex Dunn has revealed he will miss Inglewood United’s opening game of the Night Series.   The 31-year old shot-stopper is making a speedy recovery following off-season knee surgery but has declared himself unavailable for Saturday evening’s fixture with Floreat Athena at Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium.

“It’s a shame to miss the first game of the season, I don’t think I’ve missed a start of a season for as long as I can remember,” Dunn explained.   “I’m really disappointed to be missing out this weekend.   I’m itching to get going again but I’m looking at the bigger picture and to get myself ready for game one of the season proper.”

“I had a small tear in my meniscus which I had been carrying for a while.   I hadn’t had too many issues with it until last season when I disrupted it and for a few moths it caused me a bit of pain. The operation was stitch the meniscus back on rather than a clean out, which will allow me to have a healthier knee after my playing days.”

Dunn, who has made 63 appearances since joining Inglewood in September 2015, is pleased with how his rehabilitation is progressing.   “I haven’t had any setbacks, which I am positive about, and the knee is getting stronger every day,” he said.   “The recovery period for is between three and four months, which has gone pretty quick in the off-season.”

“I lost a couple of centimetres of muscle on the leg so I’ve just been concentrating on getting that back.   This week is four months post-operation, and I’ll be getting back into goalkeeper specific drills and training with the main bunch of lads which is exciting.   And If we progress to the next round of the Night Series I’ll be putting my hand up to play.”
