“CLEAN SHEET AND A WIN IS A MUST” SAYS BURTON

2018_02_19_Inglewood_Season_Launch_7929Summer recruit Steve Burton has stressed the importance of Inglewood United collecting all three points from tonight’s fixture with Subiaco AFC.   Inglewood commenced the 2018 National Premier Leagues last weekend by drawing with Stirling Lions, a result the 34-year old striker labelled as “very disappointing”.

Burton has called on his teammates to up their game as they gear up for round two of the home and away series.   “We need to knuckle down and get the season going against Subiaco,” Burton commented following his Inglewood debut.   “Last year we had far too many draws so a clean sheet and a win is a must tonight.”

“Drawing with Stirling was very disappointing, it was a good result as we played half the game with ten-men but it was two points dropped.   Andy (Keogh) has put a good squad together, we are fit and should be able to up our game and take the result against a Subiaco team that’s been on the up under Ian McMurray’s guidance.”

Burton is one of several new faces in the Inglewood squad for 2018.   Born in England, the strongly built attacker played for a decade in his homeland for the likes of Ipswich Town, Doncaster Rovers, Scarborough, Crawley Town, Tamworth, Harrogate Town and Bradford Park Avenue, amongst others.

Burton proved an immediate success on signing with Balcatta in 2011, helping the club top the league ladder and winning the Gold Medal.   He turned out the following year for Victorian club South Melbourne before returning west for spells with Bayswater City, where he collected another league champion’s medal, Floreat Athena and Olympic Kingsway.
