Midfielder Jason Barrera could not find fault with Inglewood United’s performance in the 1-2 weekend loss at neighbouring Bayswater City. Inglewood played a man down for close to 80 minutes of Saturday’s derby after goalscorer Ash Rosindale was issued his marching orders early in the piece.
And although Bayswater struck twice in the opening stages of the second half, Barrera feels Inglewood were unlucky not to take out at least a share of the points. “Even though we were a man down after ten minutes, I was happy with the way we performed as a team,” Barrera commented.
“We definitely could have gotten something from the game. We played well, kept our shape and kept their opportunities minimal. But Bayswater were clinical with the chances they did have. We also had our share of chances, especially in the last ten minutes, and we were unlucky to not capitalise on them.”
Inglewood’s first loss of the 2018 National Premier Leagues slipped them down the competition standings to eighth place, seven points behind leaders Bayswater. Barrera admits that’s not where he’d hoped to be after four games, but at the same time he’s not overly concerned by his teams’ situation.
“It is disappointing to only have one win so far, mainly because we know it could have easily been a different result in the other three games,” Barrera commented. “It’s not the start we were wanting but in saying that I feel we are starting to play better football and growing in confidence each week.”
“Although we’re currently sitting eight on the ladder no one is really taking too much notice so early in the season, we’ve only played four games and there are still another 22 to go. We know as a group that we need to start getting the results we want so we can start making our way up the ladder.”
