INGLEWOOD UNITED 2 SORRENTO 1

2018_03_31_Inglewood_vs_Sorrento_8987Alex Salmon made a sensational return to the National Premier Leagues by scoring both goals in this afternoon’s 2-1 win over Sorrento.   Salmon, in his first appearance of the year, found the back of the net in the 33rd and 71st minutes to earn Inglewood United a deserved second win of the campaign.

However, the day didn’t begin so brightly with Scott Witschge’s clinical finish from 8-metres giving Sorrento a 6th minute lead.   Inglewood’s response was to rain shots down on opposing goalkeeper James Morgan as Brian Woodall, Ash Rosindale, Ellis Healing and Kenny Keogh all went close to bringing the teams level.

That honour fell to Salmon when he seized upon an error in the middle of the park to race clear, round the ‘keeper Morgan and tuck into an empty net.   Either team could have taken the advantage into half-time but a heavy touch thwarted Witschge before Woodall’s fierce strike from 18-metres rose over the crossbar.

Inglewood were quick to resume the attack following the restart.   Salmon’s shot was cleared off the line, a deflected Healing effort flew over the bar and substitute Brian Farrell fired straight at the ‘keeper.   There were chances at the other end also where home custodian Alex Dunn spread himself to deny Alex Morgan.

A superb counter-attacking move put Inglewood ahead for the first time, a cleared corner allowing Healing to release Salmon who expertly arrowed past the ‘keeper.   The pace now quickened and in a pulsating finish Dunn denied Salter and Godwin Darkwa, while at the other end Woodall twice called Morgan into action.
