Despite taking a 2-0 lead into half-time, Inglewood United have drawn 2-2 with Floreat Athena in a game of two contrasting halves at Litis Stadium. Ash Rosindale and Brian Woodall were on target in the first half but a heartbreaking late equaliser meant Inglewood would collect just the one point.
Coach Andy Keogh, whose team remain five points outside of the top five, was furious with Inglewood’s second half display. “We gave away sloppy goals, didn’t defend and we were punished,” he said. “Ultimately, it was our schoolboy defending which cost us.”
The opening 45 minutes was all Inglewood with Ash Rosindale netting the opening goal after some clever lead-up play around the 18-yard box. And ten minutes later Brian Woodall doubled the margin with a superb chip from distance over goalkeeper Jason Saldaris.
Phil Arnold put Floreat back in the game soon after the break when he pounced on a defensive mix-up and rounded goalkeeper Alex Dunn. Alex Salmon was presented several opportunities to extend Inglewood’s lead, and although he did net with a glancing header it was disallowed for offside.
A late surge by Floreat paid dividends when substitute Jonathan Stynes stepped up to equalise in stoppage time. Calvin Whitney went within a whisker of stealing all three points for the hosts when his shot cannoned back off the woodwork.
