Assistant coach Andres Oliveira felt Inglewood United were deserving winners after out-muscling National Premier Leagues leaders Bayswater City 1-0 on the weekend. Inglewood maintained their grip on fifth spot thanks Jason Barrera’s sizzling strike midway through the first half of Sunday’s game.
Oliveira, speaking on this week’s edition of ‘Let’s Talk Football’, said he was thrilled with Inglewood’s performance against a Bayswater side that had won their previous seven league outings. “We deserved it, we played really well on the day,” Oliveira said. “We defended well and we attacked on the counter pretty well.”
“We caught them on the break a few times and probably should have scored early on. It took a superb shot by Chile (Barrera) to settle it … but the scoreline didn’t really tell the story. There was some good football played by both teams and I thought there were a few more goals in the game.”
Sunday’s win continued Inglewood’s resurgence since suffering a shock loss away at bottom-of-the-table Joondalup United six weeks ago. “Credit to the boys, they’ve refocused since that game,” said Oliveira. “From our five games, we’ve won four and drawn one.”
“We’re a bit of a dark horse (for the league title) this year, I don’t think anyone has suggested Inglewood would even creep into the top four. We’re still fifth and we’ve still got to continue that momentum to get into the top four (but) the boys are coming right at the right time.”
