The 2019 National Premier League is still some four months from kick-off but the journey is already underway for Inglewood United’s emerging talent.   Under-20s coach Chris Finlayson brought together his and the Under-18 squad at the beginning of the month for the first sessions of an extended pre-season program.

The focus of the past fortnight has been on fitness and conditioning, with players spending time in both the gymnasium and on the training track.   There will also be plenty of team building as Finlayson looks to establish the solid foundations required for success in 2019.

“Forming a new squad requires time, you don’t want to go into the season underdone,” Finlayson explained.   “Going early into pre-season will give us the opportunity to build the bonds and squad spirit, as well as set disciplines our early to have a successful season.”

“We are currently working with Jesse Fuller, from Fuller Strength and Conditioning.   Jesse will take the lads through an eight-week program that will set them up mentally and physically through boxing sessions, yoga classes, swimming and so forth.   Then after Christmas we will move into football-related drills.”

“It’s an exciting time for the Club.   We’ve promoted quite a few players from the Under-18s and signed some very impressive lads.   Making sure all our players are fully prepared for the season and building team spirit are the main goals for the next few months … bring on 2019!”
