Veteran midfielder Miki Vujacic wants to start the new year by ending Inglewood United’s decade-plus trophy drought.   It’s been fourteen very long years since Inglewood last lifted silverware by sweeping aside Vujacic’s then team Swan IC 3-0 in the finale of the 2005 Night Series.

The 2019 edition of that tournament kicks off tonight with Inglewood on home soil against Sorrento, followed by Rockingham City and Stirling Lions.   Where some clubs treat the Night Series as preparation for the coming season proper, Vujacic asserts that is not to Inglewood are approaching it.

“Without a doubt we are going out there to win the Night Series,” 34-year old Vujacic said.   “Pre-season or not, it’s still a trophy and a prestigious one at that.   So hopefully we can start the season on the right foot and bring a long overdue piece of silverware home to Inglewood.”

“To me it’s felt like a lifetime since out last competitive game so it’ll be great to be back at it tonight against Sorrento.   I know the boys are really looking forward to the game, Trim (Morgan) has worked us hard for the past few months but it will all be worth it once we get out on that pitch.”

“Sorrento are always a competitive side, regardless of what team they put out.   They always recruit smartly and have a unique club culture that doesn’t allow them to give up.   I’m expecting them to be hard to beat but with the team we’ve assembled this year I’m confident we will come away with three points.”
