Inglewood United’s Night Series campaign is over following a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Perth SC this evening at Percy Doyle Reserve. The loss means Inglewood finishes the pre-season competition fifth in Pool 1 with one win and two draws from their five outings.
Long-time defender David Cyrus said the new-look Inglewood squad learnt a lot from the Night Series. “We’re still a work in progress,” Cyrus commented post-game. “We’ve got a whole new team, a lot of young boys and a lot of inexperience.”
“It’s about creating those bonds, building those relationships and those connections on and off the pitch. The league season starts in a couple of weeks so we’ve got time to work on it … we can only look up, work on what’s come from the Night Series and go into the league as positively as we can.”
Yacoub Mustafa opened Perth’s account after 10 minutes with Kristian Santich adding a second goal shortly before half-time. Niccolo Sabatini effectively sealed the result midway through the second half before young substitute Luke Garas put the icing on the cake minutes from the final whistle.
