…In the Name Of The Game Says Normanton.
Graham Normanton called an additional training this week in an attempt to rectify what he rates as his teams’ worst performance of the season, a 4-0 win over Subiaco AFC. But Inglewood United’s coach says the session was not arranged to reprimand his players, rather as a way of better preparing the side for this weekend’s trip to Cockburn City. “It was probably our worst game of the season,” Normanton told nplwa.com.au regarding the game with Subiaco. “It’s not about punishment. It’s about improving the team. We simply can’t afford to lose another game if we have designs on the top two.”
Normanton has no doubt Inglewood have it in them to finish the regular season near the top of the ladder. But for that to be achieved they must turnaround the poor ball retention and disjointed attempts to control possession evident against Subiaco. “Cockburn seem like a Jekyl and Hyde team,” he said. “They seem to be good one week and not so good the next. But we’ve got to treat them with respect because on their day they can beat anybody.” Inglewood enter Round Ten in fifth place but only one point above Cockburn, who were beaten at Balcatta last time out.
