Browne Double Sees Off North Perth

Inglewood United cruised into the second round of the State Cup by accounting for Sunday League side North Perth United 4-1 at Woodville Reserve. Irish midfielder Sean Browne helped himself to a brace with Ryan Francis and Ryan Clarke also on the scoresheet, while substitute Keith Donnegan grabbed North Perth’s late consolation.

“Hopefully it’s the first (win) that kicks us on in the season,” said Inglewood coach Graham Normanton, whose team is yet to opening their league account. “We scored four great goals – the goals we scored were superb. That’s the way we’ve been this season. We’ve have scored great goals and then we concede cheap goals.”

As was expected, Inglewood attacked from the outset but it wasn’t until the 37th minute that they broke through with Browne tucking in from Jarrod McNally’s centre. Half-time was two minutes away when Greg Sharland clipped over the defence for Francis to delicately lob over goalkeeper Andy Stewart, who’d been badly exposed by his defence.

Clarke made the game safe after 67 minutes by racing past his marker and smashing into the bottom corner of Stewart’s net. Four minutes later Clarke’s angled strike was parried by the ‘keeper into the path of Browne, who made no mistake placing into an open goal. North Perth’s hard-work was rewarded son after when Paddy Montgomery released Donnegan to snare the hosts a consolation.
