Inglewood United’s juniors were given a taste of the Royal Show at the clubs’ annual Mini-Roos Trophy and Family Fun Day. Over 400 people soaked up a carnival atmosphere on a picturesque spring day as Intiga Stadium was transformed into mini-showground on Sunday in celebration of the recently completed season.
The day kicked off with a formal trophy presentation followed by an afternoon of family friendly activities. “It was a great day,” enthused Emmanuel Takoniatis of the junior committee. “We set out to deliver a mini-Royal Show with rides, music, popcorn, fairy floss, drinks, ice cream, hot dogs and even a showbag for the kids to take home.”
The bucking bull provided thrills and spills for riders and spectators alike, and teammate was pitted against teammate in the sumo-suit battle. Ice cream and fairy floss ensured batteries remained fully charged as children enjoyed the army obstacle course, bungee run, bouncy castle and dual lane inflatable slide. With parents taking in the sunshine, an informal game of World Cup kicked off on the main pitch.
“We wanted to celebrate the great season we had with our juniors and their families,” added Takoniatis. “I’ve been amazed by the number of people keen to help in all ways possible during the season and our family Fun Day was a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who contributed to our year; coaches, players, families, managers, assistant coaches, sponsors and volunteers.”
Mini-Roos caters for player’s ages 6 through to 11 and the high levels of success experienced this year by Inglewood’s dozen teams would not have been possible without Rodney Njirich, the clubs’ Junior Coordinator. “Rodney has worked endlessly to organise and deliver a great season,” Takoniatis commented. “His passion and enthusiasm is integral to the clubs success.”
Inglewood, as a whole, up has come a long way in the past twelve months and Takoniatis has every confidence the evolution will continue into next year. “Our club has made some massive improvements on and off the field during 2014, and there is plenty more to come,” he said. “Everyone at Inglewood is looking forward to a successful 2015 … One Dream, One Passion, One Club.”
