Teeboy Kamara’s efforts in the final third of the park have been recognised with the National Premier League’s inaugural Dylan Tombides Young Player of the Year award. Liberia-born Kamara, 18, joined Inglewood United early in the home and away series and in next to no time was the team’s focal point in attack, scoring six goals in 15 league appearances while creating numerous opportunities for those around him.
“It was quite surprising to win the Young Player of the Year, especially as I missed almost half the season,” said Kamara of his return to competitive to football from a two-year absence. “I wasn’t at my best for most of this season, I was a bit nervous to be playing again. With my first season over I feel I’ll be more relaxed next year, and with a complete full pre-season I’m looking forward to having a better year in 2015.”
“Thanks so much to everyone at Inglewood for their support in getting me back on the pitch again, it really meant a lot,” Kamara added. The Dylan Tombides Young Player of the Year is awarded to the NPL’s best first team player under the age of 20. Tombides, who played for Perth SC and Stirling Lions in his youth and had broken into the West Ham United first team, passed away in April from cancer.
