JUKIC EYEING A BIG FINISH

2015_06_13_Joondalup_v_Inglewood_4793Midfield general Andrija Jukic readily concedes Inglewood United have under-achieved this year. But before the final whistle blows on the season he intends to right a few wrongs and get the club to more respectable position on the National Premier Leagues ladder.

Jukic, like his teammates, entered the season with plans to take Inglewood into the top four, however, with three games to play they are placed lowly in eighth. The former Perth Glory player emphasised that the squad is determined to give everything they can in the remaining fixtures to move a few rungs higher.

“We’ve definitely under-achieved,” said Jukic, now in his third season with the club. “The team we have is better than where we sit on the ladder. I have believed in this team from the beginning but we have let ourselves down by making errors in defence and not taking our chances in attack.”

“We go out there every week to play some good football and get the three points. Results haven’t been going our way but nothing changes. We have to finish off the season positively. We have three more opportunities to show what we are capable of when all do our jobs and we work together.”

The first of those opportunities presents on Saturday, when Jukic and his teammates travel to Macedonia Park to play sixth-placed Stirling Lions. Inglewood goes into the game with the unenviable record of winning just once in seven games, but that’s not to say spirits aren’t high within the camp.

“There has not been a game this season that we’ve gone into and not been confident of getting a result from,” said Jukic. “If we minimise our errors and take full advantage of our possession we will definitely come away with the three points. All I’m asking of the boys is we go out there, work hard together and finish this season off winning.”
