Club stalwart Jason Colli is not taking this weekend’s clash with lowly Subiaco AFC lightly, in fact, he has labelled it a danger game. Fresh from picking up a 2-1 win at Stirling Lions, Inglewood United’s second to last outings of the National Premier Leagues season brings them up against a Subiaco outfit that has won just five times this term.
Colli says that record will count for absolutely nothing when the teams step onto Rosalie Park on Saturday afternoon. “It is going to be a difficult game. Subiaco are a team that work very hard and never give up,” stated the defender. “But in saying, if everyone works together like we did last week then we will the result we deserve.”
With twelve seasons at Inglewood under his belt, Colli says the squad coach Michael Garcia assembled this year is far better than their current mid-table placing suggests. “This seasons’ squad is one of the best during my time at Inglewood,” he said. “We have brought in quality players in the off-season to compliment the group which we already had at the club.”
“We are better than where we currently sit on the ladder. When we have played as team we have shown we can mix it with the best teams in the league. Up until last weekend, we were the only team to have taken points off (champions) Bayswater City. Unfortunately, we have also been inconsistent and that is something we need to work on next year.”
Focus across the league may slowly be turning towards 2016 but as far as Colli is concerned there is still plenty of football to be played this year before he’ll be resting. “To be honest I haven’t thought too much about next year yet,” he said. “We have two games to go and we want to finish as high up the ladder as possible.”
“Inglewood is a great club which has the potential to be the best in the league. We want to be winning the league, so it is up to us as a team to work together on achieving that goal. Right now we’re looking to finish this season strongly as we prepare for next year, when I’m sure we will be higher up the ladder.”
