RICHARDSON “ABSOLUTELY THRILLED” TO JOIN INGLEWOOD

2015_09_09_Scott_Richardson_6022New Technical Director Scott Richardson will draw on over a decades’ knowledge and experience in the United Kingdom to produce the next generation of Inglewood United footballers. Richardson, holder of UEFA ‘A’ and FFA ‘A’ Licenses, has worked extensively in player development for the best part of the last fifteen years.

Scotland youth internationals Craig Sibbald (Falkirk), John Souttar (Dundee United), Ryan Watters (Motherwell) and Ryan Gauld (Sporting Lisbon) are just a few of those whose careers he has nurtured. And now Richardson has vowed to now bring that success to Inglewood by continuing the implementation of the club’s vision and playing philosophy.

“I’m absolutely thrilled at being appointed Technical Director at Inglewood, a club with a rich history, culture and tradition in West Australian football,” Richardson said. “I’m opening a new chapter in my coaching career and I’m looking forward to using my vision and expertise to produce the next generation of Inglewood United players.”

“There is nothing better than seeing a young player with potential progressing through the youth pathways to first team football. I’ll be working closely with all the coaches at the club in order to develop them to be able to provide better coaching, which underpins how well our players will develop and progress.”

Scotland-born Richardson gained a solid grounding in youth development at Falkirk and Dundee United. “I’ll always be indebted to Scott Miller for giving me my first experience of a professional academy at Falkirk,” he explained. “At the end of my second year Scott moved to Dundee United and he invited me to join him there.”

But the biggest influence on his coaching career came at Motherwell. “If it wasn’t for head of youth development Chris McCart and my coaching partners Tom McCafferty and Brian McDonald I wouldn’t have the passion and drive to coach today,” Richardson said. “They spent hours sharing their knowledge and techniques for getting the best out of players.”

In early 2009 Richardson moved south of the border to join Newcastle United as a development officer, and later worked with the English Football Association’s Centre of Excellence Academy. In search of a new challenge, he relocated to Perth in 2011 he has since held Technical Director posts at Perth SC and Armadale while working as Assistant Director of Soccer at Aquinas College.

Now at Inglewood, Richardson has been busy making plans to build on the work of Goran Stajic, our inaugural Technical Director. “Goran has developed an exciting program, I feel I can enhance that work,” he said. “The plan is to assemble a strong technical and tactical coaching team who understand the needs of the players within the playing groups.”

“The elite NPL teams are one focus but I also want to make sure coach development is happening at the grass roots, if we get it right at that level then the future of our programs will flourish. The behind-the-scenes team running the club share my passion and vision for the club … Inglewood will achieve great things in the future.”
