Inglewood United is delighted to confirm that a deal has been completed to bring dual Championship winning centre-back Adam Tong to the club. The towering 33-year old becomes the fourth player to relocate to Inglewood Stadium so far this summer as coach Michael Garcia prepares to take the club into the upper reaches of the National Premier Leagues.
“I’m delighted to have signed with Inglewood and I’m looking forward to the season ahead,” Tong said. “With the club looking to make a few more ‘profile’ player signings in the near future, we’ll be hoping for at least the top four next year. Given the squad we have now and the squad we are assembling, that is certainly within our reach.”
Manchester-born Tong has enjoyed a successful career in England’s lower leagues as well as on the local scene. A junior with Plymouth Argyle, he played with distinction for Fleetwood Town and spent two years with each Burscough and Bamber Bridge. He moved to Western Australia in early 2011 following an 18-month stretch at FC United of Manchester.
Tong’s first port of call downunder was Balcatta. Across five seasons at Grindleford Reserve he collected a league winner’s medal, three Player of the Year awards plus State team honours against Perth Glory. A switch to Bayswater City last season was rewarded with another league winner’s medal and a National Premier Leagues Grand Final outing with Sydneysiders Blacktown City.
Tong admits Inglewood have held his attention throughout the last six years and that heis looking forward to pulling on the clubs gold and blue shirt. “I have always been a big admirer of Inglewood,” he said. “They play a good style of football, the environment is very professional and the facilities are excellent, among the best in the league.”
“Unfortunately, of late results haven’t reflected the clubs’ true potential. I’m hoping that in some small way I can help change that by bringing a bit of experience, knowledge and leadership to the side. Inglewood deserve to be one of the dominant teams in this league and next year we’ll make that a reality.”
