New recruit John Migas is excited by the prospect of playing for Inglewood United, saying the club possesses all the hallmarks of being on the cusp of trophy success. Migas, 30, agreed terms with Inglewood earlier this week and immediately hit the training track with his teammates in preparation for the fast-approaching Night Series tournament.
“I’m very excited to be an Inglewood player,” Migas said. “After two years out of the Premier League I’m looking forward to making a comeback and couldn’t think of a better team to do that with than Inglewood United. It was great to meet and catch-up with the guys during the week in our first couple of pre-season sessions.”
Migas, who collected league winner’s medals with Floreat Athena and Balcatta, says there are some strong parallels between his new and former clubs. “Having a good group of guys – players and coaches – creates a good atmosphere, and that is very important in generating results and setting us up for a great year,” the former State team defender explained.
“In this league the most important thing is that you enjoy your football and play with a good bunch of guys. Winning the league undefeated with Floreat (in 2007) and topping the table with Balcatta (in 2011) were the two best years of my football career, not just because we finished first but because I did it with a great bunch of mates.”
“Inglewood has made some great signings and with the guys we have there is no reason why we can’t finish in the top three. I’m buzzing at the moment and are aiming to be a permanent fixture of a team that can challenge for top spot and cause a few upsets. Hopefully, I can cement a spot in the first eleven and help the club win some silverware.”
Migas started out as a teenager with Fremantle City but it was at Floreat that his career really took flight. A six-year spell at Litis Stadium was rewarded with League and Cup glory along with State team honours. He later helped Balcatta claim top spot in the first of three seasons with the club. Migas played 2015 with Division One club Western Knights.
