Kenny Keogh stretched Inglewood United’s winning run to three games by snaring the solitary goal of this afternoon’s 1-0 triumph over Perth Glory at Ashfield Reserve. The three points gained keep Inglewood sitting jointly on top of the National Premier Leagues ladder alongside Perth SC and next week’s opposition, Bayswater City.
“It wasn’t a pretty game from our point but it was effective,” coach Taki Nicolaidis told nplwa.com.au “We took our chance in the first half and in the second half we defended very well and made it difficult for them to create goal scoring chances … to come away with nine points from three games is good (and we) look forward to the game next week against Bayswater.”
Inglewood was given an early wake-up call when Alex Tanevski sprayed high and wide when he really should have forced a response from goalkeeper Alex Dunn. It didn’t take long for the visitors to respond, Keogh volleying powerfully past ‘keeper Jordan Thurtell after Adam Tong’s long throw was flicked on by Brian Woodall.
Glory’s day took another turn for the worse when Tanevski was stretchered from the field suffering a suspected broken arm with just 19 minutes on the clock. That injury took the sting out of the game and the remainder of the half took place between the boxes with neither ‘keeper being put to the test.
Thurtell found himself in the thick of the action when the second half kicked off, the Glory custodian impressively keeping out shots on target by Mark Pritchard and Jason Colli in quick succession. Inglewood continued to knock the ball around only to be met by a Glory backline that was in no mood to concede for a second time.
It was a similar story for Glory who were also enjoying some good possession, but rarely did they look like breaking through a disciplined defensive line under the command of David Cyrus. In fact it was the Inglewood captain that came closest to finding the net before the final whistle when his vicious strike was turned wide by a diving ‘keeper.
