Inglewood United increased their lead at the top of the National Premier leagues following this afternoon’s 4-2 away defeat of Sorrento. An early own goal had the Gulls on the back foot before Calum O’Connell doubled the difference and Kenny Keogh sealed the win with a second half brace to move Inglewood two points clear of their nearest rival.
There was a degree of good fortune involved when Inglewood edged ahead after only 4 minutes, home custodian James Morgan taken by surprise by Brian Woodall’s shot which deflected off a defender. It didn’t take long for that lead to be doubled as Jason Barrera beat his marker to deliver a low centre to the far post where O’Connell had the simple task of tapping in.
Goal number three arrived just before the hour with Keogh capitalising on the hosts failure to clear a corner by lashing in from 9-metres. At this point Sorrento could have been forgiven for giving up but instead the northerners responded with a goal of their own, Jordan Brown sending the ball into Alex Dunn’s net.
The result was put beyond doubt three minutes before the end when John Migas orchestrated a swift attack down the left which Keogh finished off by blasting in at close-range. Substitute Billy Quinncroft snared a stoppage time consolation for Sorrento by tucking away the loose ball after Dunn parried a shot on goal.
