Coach Richie Abrams has every confidence his team can book their place in the final of the Under-18s State Cup when they face Floreat Athena tomorrow. Inglewood United’s youth team have hit their straps in recent weeks with back-to-back wins over Perth SC and ECU Joondalup, the latter courtesy of a Brian Mazingaidze hat-trick on Saturday.
Abrams is delighted with the way his young side are playing at the moment and the coach is hopeful that momentum can take them all the way to the Cup final. “Like any knock-out competition you want to stay in as long as you can,” Abrams commented. “I believe we have the players to win Monday’s game, if they bring their Cup form to the table.”
Mazingaidze’s haul at Joondalup on Saturday gave the Under-18s just their third win of the home and away series, a result which moves them to second from bottom on the ladder. By contrast, they’ve swept aside Perth SC (2-0), Stirling Lions (4-1) and Balcatta (2-0) in the knock-out competition to be just 90 minutes away from playing off for silverware.
“Luke (Garas), Brian (Mazingaidze), Nic Challot and Kieran Patterson will be looking to provide the opportunities and I’m sure Sam Brennan, Nelson Tshongo and the rest of the back four will be doing what they can to ensure that we don’t concede. We go in as underdogs due to our league position but I’m sure it will be a fantastic game for all those involved.”
