Josh Pereira is hoping for a good run of form and fitness over the second half of the National Premier Leagues season, beginning the upcoming home game against Balcatta. Pereira came to Inglewood United at the start of the year ready to embrace the challenge offer by a new club, and eager to grow and develop as a player.
However, Pereira’s first six months with the club haven’t quite gone to plan with the holding midfielder starting less than half of Inglewood’s twenty-one league and cup games. “I’m happy with the way the season is going in general, but there have been a few personal frustrations,” Pereira explained.
“The main frustration is that whenever I begin to string a few starts together I manage to pick up a niggling injury, which sets me back. I’ve been addressing that by working on my strength and conditioning. If I continue to train well and with good intensity then the opportunity to start will present itself again.”
Pereira has missed Inglewood’s last three games – two losses and a draw – but the 23-year old is confident the team are on the verge of a winner’s circle return. “Getting a result at Floreat Athena last week was crucial,” he said. “We needed to show resilience and have a positive mindset to put the past few games behind us.”
“Our drive is stronger than ever and our focus has turned to Balcatta, a team that plays with intensity and can be quick to exploit your mistakes. We’ve regained our defensive structure and with a few attacking players coming back into the side I feel that we will get back to winning ways on Saturday.”
