CYRUS BACKS HIS TEAM IN TITLE RACE

2016_05_21_Subiaco_v_Inglewood_8356Grenada international David Cyrus expects Inglewood United to finish the season strongly following a brief lull in form.   Inglewood appeared to be in disarray earlier this month after being knocked from the top of the National Premier Leagues and tipped out of the FFA Cup by a three-game winless streak.

That run was ended by last weekend’s workman-like win over Balcatta, a result which Cyrus says indicates Inglewood’s league campaign is back on track.   “We’re confident (but) you can’t get too ahead of yourself,” Cyrus commented.   “We got off to a really good start, we had a bit of a blip and that’s over with now.”

“We had a good win over Balcatta on the weekend and it’s now just a matter of taking every game as it comes and getting back to basics.   Team morale is really good, everyone gets along and training has been intense.   It’s a good feeling to be part of a club on the up and we’re in a very good position at the moment to contend for the league title.”

Inglewood heads into Saturday’s home fixture with Perth Glory in second position, two points adrift of pacesetters Bayswater City and a single point clear of third-placed Perth SC.   “It’s turning out to be an interesting season,” said Cyrus.   “As you can see from the ladder, it’s a very competitive league this year.”

“There are points there to be had (and) if you lose a game it’s a matter of getting things back on track and going for it.   We’re not worried at all about who our next opponent is or how well they are playing.   We had a good pre-season, a good start to the season and we’ll finish the season just as strongly.”
