Club stalwart Jason Colli has dismissed suggestions revenge will be on the minds of Inglewood United’s player when they travel to Macedonia Park this weekend. Inglewood sits top of the National Premier Leagues pile heading into Saturday’s clash with fourth-placed Stirling Lions.
Stirling, who trail the leaders by five points, snapped Inglewood’s winning start to the league by claiming a 3-0 win when the teams met at Inglewood Stadium back four months ago. Colli though refuses to speak about revenge, insisting that that his side will be ready for any kind of challenge that is put in front of them.
“Revenge isn’t really a motivator,” Colli said. “We as a team have put ourselves in a great position to finish on top of the league this year and that is enough motivation in itself. We want to keep progressing our football and we want to finish the season off strongly.”
“At the moment we’re top of the ladder but we realise we still have a lot of work to do and that we still have room for improvement in the side. In each game we’ve played we have shown that we are capable of producing some good football so I am sure a full 90-minute performance isn’t too far away.”
Colli says Inglewood will need to be at their best to counter the attacking prowess of a free-scoring Stirling outfit on Saturday. “Our performance at Cockburn last week didn’t get us the result we were after but confidence is high that we can make up for that at Stirling,” said the defender.
“Stirling have scored a lot of goals this season – they’re the league’s highest scorers – so we will have to be strong defensively. It’s going to be a tough match but if we play to our ability I’m sure we can finish Saturday with three more points.”
