Taki Nicolaidis says Inglewood United’s destiny is in their own hands following this afternoon’s shock 1-0 home defeat to Subiaco AFC. A goal midway through the second half decided the game, slipping Inglewood to second in the National Premier Leagues and setting up a potential title decider against new leaders Perth SC next weekend.
“We need to regroup and produce a positive reaction against Perth. We are still in the title race with two games to go, the outcome is in our own hands,” Nicolaidis said. “We’re very disappointed with today’s result and our performance. Full credit to Subiaco though, they worked their socks off and defended extremely well.”
Inglewood spent much of the first half on the back foot as last-placed Subiaco prodded and probed for openings. It wasn’t until the closing stages that the hosts started to threaten through Kenny Keogh, who forced a fine diving save from Ryan Montgomery and had another effort disallowed by the assistant’s flag.
Ashley Rosindale surged down the left just after the hour before squaring for Tim Robertson whose shot rose over the crossbar. It was a miss that would prove costly as five minutes later Jackson Dongray’s long throw was flicked into Alex Dunn’s net by James Casserly.
Substitute Scott Witschge was denied an equaliser when his header on Adam Tong’s long ball was pushed away by Montgomery. And with the final whistle just minutes away Tong, too, went agonisingly close with a powerful header which rattled the bar following a Pritchard corner.
