An early second half goal blitz has given Inglewood United their first win of the National Premier Leagues season, a 3-1 defeat of Subiaco AFC on a balmy evening at Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium. Alex Ishida-Livings opened the hosts account before Alex Salmon struck twice, all in the space of six minutes.
“We didn’t play that bad in the first half but we were sloppy at times in the back third,” a delighted coach Talki Nicolaidis said. “At half time the message was ‘Get in the box and have a shot’ and we did by playing two-touch football and moving and passing. The way we broke them down was very impressive.”
It was mostly one-way traffic in the opening period with the home team carving out several opportunities. Goalkeeper Ryan Montgomery kept out Brian Woodall’s header before Ashley Rosindale’s fierce low strike was halted by a defender. Rosindale was further frustrated when he fired high with the ‘keeper caught out of position.
Inglewood’s persistence was rewarded after the break with three goals in a stunning six-minute burst. Ishida-Livings, who was switched by Nicolaidis to a midfield role for the second half, broke the deadlock with his first senior goal on 49 minutes, side-footing in at the far post from Adam Tong’s inviting delivery.
Five minutes later Salmon got his angles right to double the lead after taking receipt from Rosindale. Inglewood regained possession soon after the restart with Rosindale again finding the feet of Salmon, who twisted and turned his way through several challenges before firing goal number three into the bottom corner.
Salmon came agonisingly close to snaring a hat-trick with a dead ball that Montgomery tipped over the crossbar. Although the game was now well out of their reach, Subiaco did manage to pull a goal back with fifteen minutes remaining when Rory Feely placed neatly across home custodian Alex Dunn.
