Englishman Brian Woodall readily acknowledges he doesn’t know a great deal about this weekend’s opposition, Mandurah City. Inglewood United have home ground advantage in Saturday’s the fifth round of the National Premier Leagues to competition newcomers Mandurah, who are back in the top flight after a five-year absence.
“I haven’t seen Mandurah play so they are largely unknown to me,” commented Woodall, who was with English club Gresley when Inglewood last met Mandurah in mid-2011. “It’s their first year in the NPL and they haven’t had the best of starts. But I’ve heard they have some quality players and I expect they’ll be a difficult opponent.”
“We’ve been playing well and I feel we’re deserving of a few more points that the five we have (from four games). The foundations are there and if we can cut out the odd error and put our chances away then we’ll start getting the results we want. And it’s important we do that soon as we want to be one of the teams others are chasing, not the other way around.”
Woodall operated for much of last year as Inglewood’s target man in the final third of the park, the 29-year old putting away 17 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions. This season has seen a change of role with Woodall deployed wide on the left by coach Taki Nicolaidis.
“I’m enjoying playing on the wing,” Woodall said. “I used to play on the wing back in England so I’m comfortable playing there for Inglewood. It gives me the chance to be more involved in the play, receiving the ball out on the line, running at defences and creating chances for the team.”
