Captain David Cyrus says the time has come for his team to show they are serious about winning this year’s National Premier Leagues title. Inglewood United commenced 2017 with the clear and stated goal of adding silverware to the trophy cabinet for the first time in over a decade.
With the season mid-point approaching, Inglewood are placed fifth in the league and with their hopes of FFA Cup glory dashed. It’s not quite where Cyrus had hoped Inglewood would be at this stage of the year but the Grenadian international feels victory at Balcatta on Saturday will kick-start their campaign.
“This weekend, three points are a must,” stated Cyrus ahead of this weekend’s game against his former club. “We’re coming up to the half way point of the season, the gap is only small (between us and top few places) and it is about time we start to put some pressure on the top four.”
The next stop on Inglewood’s push for the top of the league is Grindleford Reserve. Balcatta have themselves been doing it tough of late, winning once in six outings, but Cyrus knows his former club will be anything but a pushover. “It will be a battle,” Cyrus said.
“Balcatta have some good young players that are willing to run for 90 minutes and work hard. We won’t be underestimating them by any means and will go into the game with the some fighting spirit that we approach every game with.”
“Last year we beat them three times because of grit, determination and team work. And we have more than enough ability to steamroll them this weekend. If we put in 120%, work as a cohesive unit and follow instructions then we have the ability to beat any team in the league.”
