SALMON CONFIDENT OF BEATING FLOREAT

2017_04_02_Inglewood_vs_Joondalup_United_2767English striker Alex Salmon has declared Inglewood United can topple National Premier Leagues leaders Floreat Athena when they meet this weekend.   Inglewood are unbeaten in their last four league games but, with three of those drawn, they head into the thirteenth round of the season eight points behind top spot.

Salmon readily acknowledges Inglewood have performed below par this year.   And the competition’s leading goal scorer is also aware that a positive result on Saturday afternoon at Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium could be the catalyst for Inglewood to rise up the competition standings over the season half of the winter.

“Saturday is a big game for us to close that gap to five points, instead of chasing Floreat from eleven points behind,” Salmon commented.   “We know that to win trophies you have to beat the best teams.   We have the ability to beat Floreat and if we turn up with a good performance I’m sure that is what we’ll do.”

“It’s fair to say we’ve been poor for what we and everybody else would have expected from us this year.   We’ve conceded a lot of soft goals and not taken our chances to kill games off when they’ve presented.   Our preparation for this week is no different to any other, the focus is solely on bettering our performance.”

“On Saturday, the manager will set his team out and tell us how he wants us to play and then it’s over to us players to do the business.   The league seems to be anybody’s this year and it’s going to come down to who wants it most and who can string together their results … hopefully Saturday will be the start of our run.”
