Litis Stadium remains an unhappy hunting ground for Inglewood United after Floreat Athena scored a 3-0 win from a lacklustre National Premier Leagues clash. The loss continued Inglewood’s horrible record at the venue, where they’ve tasted victory just once in twelve visits, and leaves the club seventh on a congested ladder.
Floreat made a positive start by nudging the lead on the quarter hour, a partial clearance being returned into the danger zone where Aleks Vrteski was given no chance by Steve Burton’s scissor kick. David Micevski conjured Inglewood’s best chance to equalise shortly before the break but his goalbound free-kick was deflected over the crossbar.
It was Micevski that again threatened to bring the side level mid-way through the second period only for Dennis Galan to rob the midfielder of a shot. And it became clear that this was not to be Inglewood’s day when, four minutes later, Kris Gates’ effort came off the post and then a defender before entering the net.
Nonetheless, the team in yellow continued to press. Teenager Jacob Mustafa had been on the park only a few minutes when he forced Fraser Greenwood into a sharp response from Jason Colli’s delivery. But hopes of a late revival were extinguished when Burton headed into the bottom corner after getting on the end of a Bobby Wilson long ball.
