Playmaker Jason Barrera is not happy with how Inglewood United have started the new season, but the creative midfielder is backing his team to turn things. Inglewood have endured a flat start to the National Premier Leagues, winning just one of five games to be placed seventh, some six points adrift of top spot.
“We’re definitely not happy with our season so far,” Barrera said. “We have high expectations of ourselves as a team and we want to be playing finals come September so to be sitting seventh is disappointing. But it is a long season and I’m confident we can start getting the results we need to climb the ladder.”
“As a team we need to play the way we know best for the full 90 minutes and not switch off at times during the game. We’ve been scoring goals but we’ve also been letting them in, which is an issue at the moment. It’s the little ‘one percenters’ that we need to tweak and get right, then things will start going our way.”
Barrera believes Sunday’s away game with Stirling Lions provides the perfect opportunity for Inglewood to kick-start their season. “We’re seventh on the ladder and we need to start taking maximum points from every game if we’re serious about playing in the finals,” commented the midfielder.
“We’ve got a squad full of quality and experienced players so it’s hard to not be confident that we’ll get our winning form back, especially with the coaching staff and the hard yards that gets put in at training … I’m sure we’ll put away a few goals on the weekend and get the result we’re after.”
