CENTRAL PAIR PROVIDING INNER STRENGTH

The headlines usually belong to the goalscorers but regular watchers of Inglewood United will be well aware the teams’ true driving force comes from the midfield engine room.   Integral to that thrust has been Matthew Ntoumenopoulos and Jason Barrera, one of the best central pairings in the National Premier Leagues.

And the statistics certainly back up this assertion.   Of the eleven games Ntoumenopoulos and Barrera have started together Inglewood have collected seven wins and three draws.   “A strong midfield partnership is key in a winning side and hopefully Jason and myself can keep developing our understanding of eachother,” Ntoumenopoulos commented.

“Jason has a great understanding of the game and it is a pleasure being able to run beside him and be part of some of the beautiful football he is capable of.   We have a great connection and respect for each other on the park and recognize that when we link-up we can really control games.”

Ntoumenopoulos will be hoping he and Barrera can assert that authority when Inglewood travels to Mandurah City on Saturday.   “Everyone will be looking to grab three points from this game, especially considering Mandurah took points away from us at home,” he said, referencing the 2-2 draw the teams played out in mid-March.

“Our back four plus Alex (goalkeeper Alex Dunn) have been doing a fantastic job, conceding only two goals in our last five games and providing a solid foundation.   We are playing a great brand of football and the culture in the team is radiant.    Andy Keogh’s understanding of the game is reflected in our rise up the ladder.”

“Right now there’s one point separating the top four sides and we want to be top at seasons end.   Given the style with which we are playing and the drive that we have shown we are giving ourselves the best possible chance.   But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, it’s is never easy travelling to Mandurah.”
