CONTERA CONFIDENT OF ACHIEVING “SIX-POINT TARGET”

Inglewood United can keep their chances of playing in this year’s finals series alive when they host Joondalup United tomorrow.   With two regular season games to go Inglewood are placed sixth on a congested National Premier Leagues ladder that has positions two through to six separated by a single competition point.

A home win over Joondalup has the potential to lift Inglewood to as high as third, however, a loss will also certainly bring their season to a close.   “If we fail to deliver three points on Saturday it is effectively season over for us,” assistant coach Saul Contera stated.   “It would be an understatement to say we have a lot to play for.”

“The feeling within the group has always been positive from the start of the season and that has not changed, even when results have not been what we would have liked.   The boys have always rolled their sleeves up and focussed on the week ahead and it has been no different this time around.”

Heading into the second last round of the winter, Inglewood are locked together with Bayswater City and ECU Joondalup on 43 points, which is one less than third-placed Cockburn City.   Contera is concerned solely with Inglewood’s next 180 minutes and not the permutations as to what may or may not happen elsewhere.

“A lot of things can happen in the last two rounds and other results will take care of themselves,” Contera commented.   “Our focus is on our performances and ensuring we meet our six-point target.   I have every confidence in the players and that we can win our last two games, which we are treating as two Cup Finals.”
