Bayswater City has ended Inglewood United’s FFA Cup hopes by claiming a 2-0 win from a tense meeting at Inglewood Stadium. Goals late in the second half by Gustavo Giron-Marulanda and Andy Reale were enough to gain Bayswater a place in the next round of the knock-out competition, and keep alive their plans of back-to-back State Cups.
“We were a bit off today and against Bayswater you can’t afford to be,” said coach Michael Garcia. “Offensively we didn’t have our usual flow (but) I don’t think there was too much between the two teams … Bayswater didn’t create too many chances that affected us.”
With neither team taking too many risks, genuine goal scoring opportunities were few and far between. Bayswater snuck the lead after 78 minutes with Giron-Marulanda converting a penalty awarded following a foul by Scott Blackmore. Reale sealed Inglewood’s fate eight minutes later as the home side threw ment forward in search of an equaliser.
“I told the boys at half-time it was going to take just a moment in lapse of discipline from either team that would be the difference, and ultimately that proved to be the case,” Garcia commented. “But we can hold our heads up as for a good part of the game we were well in it … I’m pretty proud of the boys today.
