Teenage striker Nic Challot concedes Cup Fever has taken over at Inglewood United as the Under-18s prepare for the biggest game of their season. The youth team have the opportunity to lift the first trophy of the season on Saturday morning when they take on Cockburn City in the Under-18 Cup Final at Dorrien Gardens.
“We are all very excited, this is by far the most important game of our season,” commented Challot, who has netted six times in the quest for Cup glory. “Our league form has been very disappointing so the Cup Final provides us an opportunity to show everyone what we are capable of.”
“It’s going to be a very intense game as our entire Cup run comes down to our next 90 minutes, unlike the league where there’s always another game next week. We’re confident we can beat Cockburn, we’ve been bringing our A-game to the Cup and beaten some quality teams.”
Inglewood’s defeated Perth SC, Stirling Lions – thanks in no small part of a Challot hat-trick – Balcatta and Floreat Athena on their way to the Cup Final. Unfortunately their record against Cockburn this year isn’t quite as glamourous, mid-April’s fixture finished level with the Cockerels claiming victory in this month’s return leg.
“We definitely have a point to prove as both league games could have gone either way,” Challot said. “The last game was only a couple of weeks ago when they won 2-0. That result is still fresh in our memories and we owe it to each other as players, our coaches and our families to put in a Cup-winning performance on Saturday.”
