CYRUS SETS HIS GOALS

2016_04_09_Bayswater_v_Inglewood_7776Team captain David Cyrus doesn’t get on the scoresheet too often, so when he does the Grenada defender likes to ensure the occasion is suitable deserving.   Cyrus commemorated his summer switch to Inglewood United on the weekend by netting the second goal in the 2-0 National Premier League triumph over three-time league champions Bayswater City.

And although thrilled to have opened his Inglewood account, Cyrus says bettering Bayswater means far more than three competition points for his team.   “Scoring in such a big game was a great feeling,” Cyrus said.   “I would definitely like to think that there will be more to come throughout the season, but only time will tell.”

“Saturday’s win was not only important for our league position – it also does wonders for the players’ confidence and self-belief to know that we can compete with the more respected teams in the league.   We came into the season with high expectations – we’re now sitting joint top with Perth SC and taking every game as it comes.”

Inglewood return home for the first time in a month on Saturday to host a Cockburn City side that has four points from four games, and conceded ten goals in their last two outings.   “Cockburn lost their manager last year along with a good handful of their players, which is always hard for a club,” commented Cyrus.

“The fact they have conceded ten goals in the past fortnight makes no difference in our game plan or approach.   We played them in the Night Series and came away with a 1-0 win but they were a very tough opponent.   Cockburn are a well-respected side in which we won’t be taking lightly.”

“Coming out of last weekend with a great result, we have to keep our feet firmly on the ground knowing that there are still eighteen more league fixtures to go.   We will be putting our Cockburn game plan into action during mid-week training with the intentions of coming out with a result this Saturday.”
