Livewire attacker Jason Barrera is counting down the days to his National Premier Leagues return after signing on with Inglewood United for the 2016 season.   A former State junior representative, Barrera becomes the club’s third major signing of the close season, following on from State team custodian Alex Dunn and Granada international David Cyrus.

Barrera, who spent last season in Division One, says the opportunity to return to the state’s top flight was simply too good to refuse.   “I’m 27 now and I’d like to play the years that I have remaining at the highest level I can,” he said.   “I’m excited about the plans Inglewood have as a club and I’m looking forward to successful year with them.”

“As a footballer you are always looking to challenge yourself and to be part of a successful team.   After meeting with the coaches, the couple things that stood out was their approach to training sessions and their style of play, which suits the way I play … I had no hesitation in joining Inglewood.”

Barrera played juniors at Fremantle City, gaining State Under-15 honours and making his first team debut at the age of 18.   A couple of years at Floreat Athena were followed by three with Balcatta, who he helped top the Premier League ladder in 2011.   Stints with Armadale and Perth SC preceded last years’ move to Dianella White Eagles.

Now on the verge of an NPL comeback, Barrera is looking forward to what 2016 has in store.   “Inglewood is a club with ambition, they want to play quality football and win trophies,” he said.   “We’ll be a real competitor in the league next year, I’ll be disappointed if we don’t finish in the top four.”
