Defender David Cyrus popped up late to secure Inglewood United a 3-2 win from a see-sawing encounter with Perth SC this evening at Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium. The game seemed destined to finish level when Cyrus headed in his second goal of the campaign to compliment finishes by Ash Rosindale and Alex Salmon.
“It was a great game – first half I think we were far superior, second half we gave them a few more chances but we showed great character to come back from 2-1 down,” coach Andy Keogh said. “We’ve been knocking on the door and quietly going about our business, trying to play some good football with some high levels of energy.”
Ash Rosindale got the home team off to a by heading in Brian Woodall’s pinpoint delivery with 13 minutes on the clock. It didn’t take long for Perth to hit back, however, Matthew Milenkovic restoring parity by netting at close-range after Inglewood were slow to clear their lines.
The end-to-end nature of the game continued with Gustavo Catarcione crashing into the upright before Alex Salmon brought the best out of Malek Kuc. Inglewood increased the tempo as the half came to a close with Rosindale stinging the palms of the young Perth goalkeeper.
The chances continued into the second half. Perth edged into the lead when Zimarino tucked in after Alex Dunn parried a Frank Furfaro shot. And five minutes later it was Salmon’s turn in the limelight, the striker expertly stepping past his marker to curl across Kuc and inside the far post.
The stage was now set for a thrilling finish in which both teams had their chances to steal the win. 85 minutes had elapsed when the deciding goal finally arrived, Cyrus steering Miki Vujacic’s corner goalward with the ball deflecting off Kieran Colwell before crossing the line.
