INGLEWOOD UNITED 4 COCKBURN CITY 2

2016_04_16_Inglewood_v_Cockburn_7887Kenny Keogh scored twice to guide Inglewood United to a fifth successive National Premier Leagues victory.   Brian Woodall took his goal tally to five in as many games before substitute Ashley Rosindale rounded out the 4-2 scoreline against Cockburn City, a result which keeps Inglewood on top of the competition ladder.

It took only a minute for Inglewood to make their intentions clear with Woodall stinging the gloves of Luke Radonich.   The visiting goalkeeper was next called upon Josh Pereira, whose long-range strike was pushed over the crossbar.   But the breakthrough came at the opposite end where Harry O’Brien threaded low past a diving Alex Dunn.

Inglewood responded by stepping up the tempo in an attempt to level the game before half-time.   Keogh’s header seemed destined for the net but Radonich somehow managed to keep it out, and it was more through luck than anything else that Woodall’s powerful shot from inside the penalty area was blocked by the defence.

The second half had barely begun when Woodall drove down the right, evading a couple of challenges before delivering a low centre which Keogh turned in at close-range.   Inglewood were ahead five minutes later when Woodall glanced in Mark Pritchard’s cleverly clipped ball to the top of the 6-yard box.

The momentum was now well and truly with the hosts and the inevitable third goal arrived on the hour.   An attempt to clear by Radonich struck an opponent and an in instant Keogh had drilled in the loose ball.   Cameron Edwards pulled a scrappy goal back to keep alive Cockburn’s hopes of salvaging their afternoon.

Adam Tong hit the crossbar and Woodall blasted high as Inglewood sought to restored their two-goal buffer.   That task was left to Rosindale, who won possession just outside the area and rifled first time past Radonich.   Tim Robertson came agonisingly close to adding further gloss to the scoreline by side-footing into the base of the upright.
