Irish attacker Kenny Keogh plans to re-ignite his football career with Inglewood United. Keogh, younger sibling of Perth Glory marksman Andy Keogh, has been out of the game for the past few years but after a couple of Night Series hit-outs with Inglewood the 27-year old is determined to make his mark in this year’s National Premier Leagues.

“I’m very happy to join Inglewood United, I’ll wear the club shirt with pride,” said Keogh upon signing up to play under Michael Garcia. “I haven’t played for quite a few years – since I moved to Perth in fact – so I’m very keen to get back into playing football. I’ve been working hard to get my fitness back and I look forward to enjoying the season ahead.”

Keogh, formerly of Dublin-based Wayside Celtic, relocated to Perth four years ago with his family. “When I came here I wanted to concentrate on work and that meant taking a break from football,” he explained. “But I’m ready to start playing again. A friend of mine, James Steedman, was training with Inglewood and asked me down, I gave it a shot and here I am now signed up.”

“All the boys have been welcoming, which has made it easy to fit in,” he added. “There’s a real focus on being a team and what Michael (Garcia) has done is very professional. We’re still gelling as a team, still figuring out how each other plays. It might take some time, but we’ve got a good group of players and I’m confident we can do well.”

Keogh will be in contention to make his NPL debut when Inglewood open their season with a twilight game against Cockburn City on Saturday 28 March. Fellow summer signings Aleks Vrteski, Jovo Pavlovic and David Micevski are also likely to make their appearances at Inglewood Stadium on that date, while defender Rikki Smith returns to the venue after a year’s absence.
