Alex Dunn has moved on from “a bad day at the office” as he prepares for a blockbuster weekend which will see him take to the field twice in three days. Inglewood United heads north on Saturday for a league encounter with ECU Joondalup before returning home 48-hours later to play Floreat Athena in the FFA Cup semi-finals.
Those two games come just days after Inglewood suffered their heaviest defeat of the season, 4-2 to Perth SC, a result Dunn is readying to make amends for. “It was a bad day at the office,” the goalkeeper said. “We have a good bunch of competitive guys at the club and we all want to make up for the weekend loss.”
“We’ll regroup and work hard on the training ground to make sure we have the best possible preparation for two big games of football this long weekend. We need to win on Saturday to stay on top of the ladder and then there’s the incentive of a Cup Final being up for grabs on the Monday.”
Inglewood learnt a few lessons the hard way on Saturday according to Dunn. “We didn’t deserve to get anything out of the game,” he commented. “We played poorly from start to finish. We gave Perth three easy goals in the first half and you can’t give any team three goals and expect to win the game.”
“Although we played terrible, we were still in the game right until the final minute when Perth sealed the win on a counter attack as we were pushing for an equaliser. There are some things we’ll take out of that game but we won’t be dwelling on it. It’s gone and our focus is now on the coming weekend.”
