Goalkeeper Alex Dunn insists the pressure will be Perth SC to perform in tomorrow’s potential league title decider at Dorrien Gardens. Inglewood United slipped from the top of the National Premier Leagues following last week’s surprise home loss to Subiaco AFC, a result which allowed Perth to move to the summit.
With two regular season games remaining Perth holds a single point lead over Inglewood in what has become a two-horse race for top honours. And Dunn, who spent three seasons at Dorrien Gardens, says the weight of expectation will be heavy on Perth this weekend. “Until a few seasons back Perth were the benchmark club,” Dunn said.
“Perth expects their players to be winning game regularly and competing for trophies to uphold the winning culture that has been instilled from previous teams. They’ve not won a trophy for a while now and there will be a lot of pressure on them to get a win at their home ground and hold onto their lead.”
Dorrien Gardens has been something of a fortress for Perth this season, the Blues limiting the opposition to just six goals in ten games in collecting five wins and four draws. Nonetheless, Dunn is confident his teammates have the ability to open up Perth’s defences and add a few more goals to the ‘Against’ column.
“Perth have some quality players and are obviously well-organised at the back,” Dunn said. “But if the league has shown us anything this year it’s that any team can beat anyone else on any day and by a range of margins. We’ve had a tough few weeks results-wise and want to make amends for the terrible display against Subiaco.”
“We know what we what are capable of and I have full confidence that our entire squad will be back on song this weekend. It’s been a long season and we have worked very hard to get to where we are. For some reason we don’t seem to want to do things the easy way and we all know what is on the line this Saturday.”
