Andrija Petrovic could not be happier about his return to Inglewood United. Re-appointed coach of the Under-20s last month, Petrovic is no stranger to the club and is looking forward to continuing the development of the clubs emerging talent while at the same time preparing the youngsters for transitioning to senior football.
“I’m very happy to be home,” said Petrovic, who admits he was overwhelmed by emotion prior to taking the Under-20s for training this year. “On my first training session back at Inglewood Stadium I had to stop and take a breath to relax before walking into the change rooms under the Kramer Stand.”
Petrovic initially joined Inglewood in 2014 and last season guided the Under-20s to third in the league, only to then part company with the club. A chance meet-up with first team coach Taki Nicolaidis last month presented the opportunity for his return to the role. “It was an easy decision for me,” Petrovic said.
It’s a very different Under-20s squad that Petrovic comes back to. “That’s an understatement,” said Petrovic, who has Alex Stanojevic as his assistant. “Apart from three Under-18s, the remainder of the squad is new to Inglewood. The players are a very determined young group of men and they are working hard to improve individually and collectively.”
“Their technical ability is very good, but we have to improve the team which means learning and implementing team tactics and the players developing a better understanding of each other. The priority is to work hard, improve individually, improve the team and work with the club to improve the structures around the team.”
