Inglewood United is delighted to announce the signing of talented youngster Sammie Riak. The versatile defensive player becomes the fourth addition to Trim Morgan’s squad for the coming National Premier Leagues season alongside Mark Barnett, Hamza Hina, and Chok Dau.
“I’m thrilled and happy to join Inglewood,” 20-year old Riak commented. “The gaffer (Morgan) he made me feel wanted straight from our first chat. He explained what the club wants to achieve this season and also how he intends to improve me individually, that was all I needed to hear to sign on.”
“I’ve always felt that Inglewood is a great club. The impression I had is it’s a very welcoming and family-oriented club which is exactly what I experienced on my first day when I met the playing group, coaching staff and the directors … I’m glad to be part of such a club.”
Born in South Sudan, Riak was only 12 years old when his family relocated to Western Australia. After initially playing for ECU Joondalup, he linked up with Perth Glory as a teenager and would play two seasons at Victorian side Hume City before returning to the west coast for back-to-back winters with Glory.
Riak was a key figure in the Glory side that placed second in the NPL and Top Four Cup last year, and hopes to go one step further in his first season at Inglewood. “My main goal this season is to win things with this team,” said Riak, who is comfortable in a defensive midfield role or as part of the back four.
“I achieve that I need to hard work during pre-season to make sure I cement my place in the team come the first game of season and kick on from there, become a regular starter and play in every game possible. If that happens then I will gladly be happy.”
