Birthday boy Tim Robertson isn’t about to rest on his laurels after a couple of eye-catching displays off the bench over the long weekend. The midfielder joined Inglewood United earlier this month and on Saturday was handed his first appearance for the club in the National Premier Leagues win at Balcatta.
Two days later and Robertson went one better by scoring his first Inglewood in the FFA Cup win at South West Phoenix. “It was a pretty special weekend,” said Robertson, who also celebrated his 23rd birthday on Sunday. “To come away with two wins and continue our good form was definitely pleasing.”
“My Inglewood debut was a great feeling, I hadn’t played NPL for a while so was a bundle of nervous energy waiting on the bench. And it was a difficult game down in Bunbury on Monday. The boys handled themselves really well and I’m always happy to get on the scoresheet and help put some icing on the cake.
Robertson, a State Schoolboys representative, is focused on building on what’s he achieved over the weekend following a lengthy break from the top flight. “Last year I was working up in Port Hedland and then spent the summer travelling through America, so didn’t give much thought to who I’d play for this year,” he explained.
“I previously played under (coach) Taki (Nicolaidis) at Perth SC and it turned out he was looking for a wide player to join Inglewood. The welcome I’ve received from the club and the players has been humbling. The club has a great atmosphere and culture, and we’ve got a very talented squad of players who are also all great blokes.”
“I’m definitely enjoying my football and hoping to establish myself as a key member of the team, which means a starting role. We have a large squad and with that comes intense competition for starting positions. I’ve had a limited pre-season so getting my match fitness up and working hard at training is on the agenda if I’m to get into the eleven.”
