Defender Scott Robertson is convinced that Inglewood United’s growing confidence can inspire them to victory this weekend against neighbouring Bayswater City. Inglewood collected their first win of the 2018 National Premier Leagues season last weekend by coming from behind to topple a previously unbeaten Cockburn City.
Bayswater, league champions three of the past four years, are also riding high with three wins from as many outings. “Bayswater will be a great challenge for us,” Robertson commented ahead of Saturday’s meeting at Frank Drago Reserve. “Going to their place is always a difficult game, and we know they’ll be up for it.”
“But our team is also full of confidence at the moment. We’re coming off our first league win of the season and our performances are getting better by the game. We have to keep building on that and take everything we have to Bayswater … it should make for an entertaining match on Saturday.”
Inglewood showed great character in taking the points over Cockburn, and similar performance will be needed at Bayswater. After going a goal down early to the Cockerels, Kenny Keogh brought the teams back on level terms before second half strikes from Brian Woodall and Ash Rosindale secured a richly deserved success.
“It was great to come away with the three points,” said Robertson. “We definitely showed a lot more patience against Cockburn than in our previous two games. Cockburn pressed us high at times but we were calm and managed to keep the ball quite well, which is something we’ve been working on.”
“Drawing the first two games wasn’t ideal but there were still plenty of positives to take away from both those games. We got our first win on the board last weekend and now it’s about getting some consistency in our performances. That starts against on Saturday, and we’re looking forward to the test.”
