Attacker Ashley Rosindale insists there is no added pressure on his team after Inglewood United opened up a three-point lead in the National Premier Leagues. Inglewood claimed outright leadership of the league with last weekend’s seven-goal thrashing of Joondalup United, a result which put them on 42 points and ahead of Floreat Athena (39) and Perth SC (38).
That win over Joondalup was Inglewood’s eighth in a row and extended their unbeaten run to fourteen league games. Rosindale, who was amongst the scorers at Joondalup, doesn’t believe Inglewood are feeling any more pressure today than when they last lost three months ago to Stirling Lions, who they face again on Saturday.
“We have been under pressure in every game we have played this season after leaving ourselves with some ground to make up after the first few games, so for us nothing changes,” Rosindale commented. “We will be concentrating on keeping our unbeaten run going and taking each game as it comes.”
“We know there is a long way to go in the league and that anything can happen in the last six games. The squad is fully focused and with a few players returning there is even more competition for places. Everyone know they can’t take their foot off the gas as if they do they will find themselves on the bench or out of the squad.”
Inglewood face Stirling this weekend with a less than enviable recent record against the Lions. Inglewood have failed to score in the last three meetings between the clubs which has resulted in Stirling claiming victory twice with the other ending in a draw. Rosindale feels the time is right to correct that imbalance.
“We know that Stirling are a decent side who can be difficult to breakdown but (coach) Andy (Keogh) has been preparing us superbly in training each week to make sure we are organised and tactically aware in terms of how to exploit or counteract the opposition,” said Rosindale.
“Our recent results have really helped with the group’s confidence and there is a real togetherness within the squad. The most important thing for us is that we maintain our concentration and the positive results will continue. At the moment we’re really enjoying our football and we’re determined to continue doing that.”
